A Thursday Evening in Epping Forest

Thursday Evening:  An Epping Evening t=swc.197

Distance:          Approximately 5 miles or 8 km for those more metrically minded
Difficulty:         3 out of 10

Meet:                At the entrance to the Loughton Underground Station (Central Line)

Time:                18:30 – but if you miss our departure, you can certainly catch us up along the way…

The plan for this evening is to do the short version of this walk by staying on a wide forest track heading northeasterly towards Epping and enjoying a meal or some drinks in Epping afterwards…. It should be quite a nice time of year for this evening walk with fresh green leaves on the trees….
More information about the route can be found here. As there are no detailed instructions for the short walk, I would suggest printing out the map page from the OS Map tab and the intro page which provides guidance. The wide track to Epping is very clear….so route finding should be straight forward….. I will, however, endeavor to post a GPX file for the short walk by Wednesday morning.....

Return travel is via the Central Line which runs until “well after 23:00”.

Enjoy the walk!

I'll probably be there if i don't have too much to finish off at work, but I won't be able to stay for dinner

Just to confirm...a GPX of the short route has been added...also, do not worry about the paucity of instructions for the short route -- I think we will be ok -- see you there!

n=6 in w=warm weather. Pleasant walk with a fair amount of undulation. Initially following the meandering Loughton Brook along narrow paths, then the main broad track through the forest, we arrived at The George & Something just after half 8. Their Real Ale barrels were all empty, so 2 moved on to one of the other pubs on the High Street, while 4 of us had a nice meal and a wine.

Actually the non-diners went home, but it took me nearly 2 hours, so it would have been a pretty late one if I'd stayed. Maybe next time if it's nearer the centre . . .
Glad you had a good meal
