I am posting
this old favourite as it has plenty of shade and is near London. We start in Knole Park, and walk through
several woods and shady paths until we arrive at Igtham Mote (National Trust). We then continue across the escarpment with
fabulous views of the Kentish Weald and a return through Knole Park. Plenty of fabulous trees to admire on this walk.
Lunch: Lunch can be had at Ightham
Mote (8.4km/5.2 miles into the walk), National Trust with cafe &
picnic area. Alternatively you can also go on from here to do an
extra loop to the excellent Chaser Inn in Shipbourne (01732
810360), 9.7km (6 miles) into the walk, which serves food all afternoon. This
is a large pub with a range of different seating areas including outside tables
in summer in a garden next to the church: however it is also popular and
booking might not be a bad idea. There
is a churchyard nearby for picnics.
Tea: the Brewhouse Cafe at Knole House is open till 5pm, or plenty
of choice in Sevenoaks.

11 gathered at Sevenoaks station, and we met up with 2 others later at Igtham Mote so #13 in all, on a #hot-and-sunny day. The paths were even more shaded than I thought as the trees now have their optimal level of foliage. We agreed that this walk is great all year round. 9 of us lunched in Igtham Mote, and later heard that 2 had proceeded to the Chaser Inn, Shipbourne for a drink and a couple had lunch in the churchyard.
We later convened in the Tea Room in Knole for refreshments, and then most continued on to Sevenoaks station. Thankfully, the weather was not such a scorcher today, and there was a lovely breeze throughout. A very pleasant day out.
