West End and Esher Commons Short Walk (AKA Oxshott Circular) — Take 2
Distance: Approximately 6.2 miles or 10 km for those more metrically minded
Difficulty: 3 out of 10
Travel: 18:03 South Western train from London Waterloo, arriving at Oxshott at 18:40 Return trains run every half hour on the hour and half hour until 23:00
This is one of my favorite evening walks — so after the fiasco in May I am giving it another shot! Just a short train journey from London brings you to Oxshott from where you magically step from the train platform directly into heathland….. The walk explores two adjoining common lands, both with a fairly wild wooded feel….We will stop midway through at the Prince of Wales pub in the pretty village of West End Common for a quick drink and bite…
More information about the route can be found here .
I look forward to seeing everyone who comes!
Hopefully, there are no train disruptions this time!

n=7 set off on a w=mild-dry-evening on the rerun of this evening classic with much better results than our efforts in May! The heather was just starting to flower on the heath which pretty to see. We all enjoyed al fresco dining in West End at the Prince of Wales before setting off on the return leg -- enjoying the sunset along the way and a nearly 3/4 moon in the evening sky.... We just missed the 10pm train -- so enjoyed a bottled of red wine on the platform waiting for the 10:30.... A fine evening out in good company!
