Suggest meeting outside Costa coffee in the ticket hall area and setting off at 10:10am prompt. This walk makes use of the online Vanguard way walk directions by Colin Saunders. From East Croydon, it's not too long before you reach the open space of Lloyd Park. The suggested lunch stop is at The Bull Inn, Chelsham Common , Chelsham, (T:01883 627735), 11km into the walk.

After lunch the terrain is more undulating. This chosen 16.7km first stage consists of Section 1: East Croydon to Chelsham Common and part of Section 2: Chelsham to Limpsfield Chart.  In the section 2 text, at the end of paragraph 2.8, take the Eastern Link to Oxted station (2.3km).
