Wednesday walk: Margate to Ramsgate via the Broadstairs Folk festival

Length: 15.7 (9.8 miles) 2/10; about 12 km if you finish at Broadstairs

t's the Broadstairs Folk week on 7-14 August which will hopefully coincide with good swimming opportunities along the coast. There been a festival outing as a weekend walk the last couple of years so I'm taking the liberty of suggesting a Wednesday slot. Early posting in case you want to try and get a cheap ticket. There seem to be quite a lot of things happening through the day in Broadstairs, see the programme here. I reckon the tide should be high in the afternoon and suitable for swimming at the beaches around Broadstairs or at Ramsgate. You could travel back from Broadstairs if you want to spend more time with music or swimming.

Trains: 0940 from Victoria, arriving at Margate 1122. There's very little time benefit in getting the high speed train from St Pancras at 0936, but it is quite a bit quicker on the way back from Broadstairs/Ramsgate (roughly one train an hour each back to Victoria or St Pancras and two to London Bridge).

Lunch and Tea: options all along the route, see the walk intro page. The Botany Bay hotel or the Charles Dickens in Broadstairs may be the best lunch pub bets. In Ramsgate, the Royal Victoria Pavilion seems to be a popular choice.
