Length: 16.9km (10.5 miles) Difficulty 5/10 hilly but gentle.
This classic Wealden walk is a hilly mix of pasture and woodland with fine panoramic views across valleys, oast houses, a cobnut orchard, and the villages of Ticehurst and Wadhurst.
Optional loops (maybe a bit long for the time of year) would take you to Bewl Water reservoir.
Trains: Get the 09:45 Hastings train from Charing Cross (London Bridge 9:54), arriving Etchingham 11:01.
Return times from Wadhurst vary each hour 15:29, 15:57, 16:24, 16:57, 17:29, 18:01. Get a return to Etchingham.
Lunch: The Bull Inn in Three Legged Cross (01580 200 586) is recommended.
An earlier quirkier option is the Bell in Ticehust (01580 200234) Quirky garden, quirky décor.
There's also the Greedy Goat Café open till 2. Picnickers have got the churchyard.
Tea
You are unlikely to make Wadhurst’s teahouses before closing time (if indeed they open on Sunday) but there are two pubs The Greyhound encountered first and the White Hart a little later.
Note that its still quite a trek from Wadhurst to the station so allow 40-50 minutes for the ‘tranquil’ route, 25-35 for the roadside route t=swc.208

Just #1 on this walk, I hear
No there were 4 of us who did Al alternative walk due to the sinkhole. However I cant write it up?
An
4 of us got off at Tunbridge due to a sinkhole on the line and being very delayed. We did the tonbridge circ via Tudeley.
We left 2 in the pub and me and one other gamely ploughed on through the mud. About 10 miles
Very muddy.
The church at Tudeley was well worth getting diverted.
