This combination walk mixes and matches the start of Jane's Book 2 walk along the South Downs before switching to the classic Book 1 walk at Burpham, to reverse the directions to Arundel via South Stoke and the lovely Arundel Park.
Lunch can be taken at the very popular (and usually busy) George Inn in Burpham. You might be lucky if you book ahead for an indoors table, but you can usually find an outdoor table if the weather "co-operates" today. Picnickers use the benches outside the church, opposite the pub.
In the afternoon you head for the Duke of Norfolk's modest back garden - Arundel Park - before you arrive in the centre of the town. See the directions for tea and pub stops in Arundel. The railway station is a 15 minute walk from the centre of town.

If you haven't tried this combination walk before I think you will enjoy it. You will find the directions for the start of the Book 2 walk and the reverse directions for the Book 1 walk after the main directions in the Book 1 walk - here : L=1.32

The text walk directions are at the link provided but for anyone wanting to follow a map or GPX, it is easier to start with this route: https://www.walkingclub.org.uk/walk/amberley-to-arundel/ and follow it to Burpham, then follow the tagged Book 1 walk 32 route IN REVERSE (I hope I've got that right Marcus, I was struggling to find the right map this morning)
That's absolutely correct, Sandy. My link is for the written directions only.
#6 walkers, three regular and three occasional, assembled at the station in light drizzle on a #changeable day with a couple of light showers and strong wind on the heights. Varying levels of inattentiveness meant we overshot a few turnings on the morning route; one took a shorter route to the lunch pub and a couple of other s took a wrong trun just before it, but all regrouped there, two after a quick sandwich. Of those who ate in the pub I heard one favourable report one who thought their meal was poor value (only one thing one the menu was under £20) - some of it was shared with a grateful picknicker, and some with a grateful labrador.
In the afternoon two continued along walk 2.22 while the rest of us did the posted route, encountering a surprisingly strong breeze off the sea at the top of the hill in Arunderl Park. Slightly delayed 1644 train for most. Thanks for posting, I thought the combination walk made a nice route with plenty of contrast
