Princes Risborough to Great Missenden

T=1.45

LENGTH 15.8km (9.8 miles)

TOUGHNESS 5/10

TRAINS Take the 10.06 from Marylebone (usually platform 6) arriving at Princes Risborough at 10.51
Trains return to Marylebone from Great Missenden roughly half hourly at .03 and .33 ( Consult your favourite train app for exact times)
As the starting and ending  stations are on different lines you’ll need to buy a return to Aylesbury (any route permitted) where both converge
A cheaper option would be two singles, one from Boundary Zone 6 to Princes Risborough and another from Great Missenden to Boundary Zone 6
£16.10 versus £14.45 (with Freedom pass and Senior Rail Card)

LUNCH A choice of

TEA There’s a Costa with Matilda’s, an independent cafe near the station and two pubs of which the George has had an excellent review from Mr. Tiger.
The Wild Kite taproom and bottle shop on Station Approach appears to have closed permanently after 6 years on April 26.

N=12 , 11 of whom set off at a brisk pace leaving 1 behind. A w=mix-of-cloud-and-sun today. There were several stunning wild flower meadows (ox-eyes, buttercups). Birds sang, kites screeched.
Most bypassed the Gate, heading for the Polecat. The straggler don’t realise that and dropped in at the Gate to find two of the group dining and waiting for an Uber.
A drink and two steep climbs later, (without the aid of ropes, crampons or oxygen) the Polecat was reached. The others had moved on. They were eventually tracked down, or some of them anyway., in the George, where a tantalising array of ciders and beers awaited. Thundering Molly it was.
Then home.
It looks like there are plans to reopen the Whip in Lacey Green as an Indian restaurant cum pub.
