This has actually not had an outing in summer for a few years, despite being “ideal for mid-summer evenings”, so here you go.
Length: 7.7 km/4.8 mi (if cutting out Victoria Park)
Height Gain: negligible
Meet 18.45 hours prompt outside Angel Station (Northern Line - Bank Branch, Zone 1), travel time
from Bank 5 minutes, from King’s Cross 2 minutes.
Finish: Limehouse DLR and
Mainline (Zone 2).
“A canal-side walk through
North and East London. This is a simple walk, (keep the canal on the right)
and ideal for mid-summer evenings.”
“Victoria Park
opens at 7am and closes at dusk,…” says Tower Hamlets' website, and if you do beat dusk to gain entry, you are looking at an 11.5 km
walk (assuming you also beat dusk to get out of the park).
Walk Options:
Bail out at Mile End (Central Line), after 4.7 km.
Walk on to Canary
Wharf (tube/DLR).
Refreshments:
The Palm Tree (Grove Road, Mile End).
Bread
Street Kitchen & Bar and The
Grapes, both a little off route at the end in Limehouse (Narrow Street).
Many more, if you extend the walk to Canary Wharf.

#12 of us gathered in the Angel tube entrance and set off in #cloudy-but-warm weather. We walked along the very busy Regent’s Canal with eateries, and many pedestrians, joggers and cyclists – all happily sharing the path. We were very pleased to see the Sharks in the Islington basin. We bypassed Victoria Park in order to have a drink in the Palm Tree Pub (still cash only). Here we were joined by walker #13 and started for Limehouse. Soon three walkers finished the walk near Mile End, and the remainder continued onto Limehouse basin. We all flocked into the Grapes for some food, but, shock horror, were informed by the very friendly bar staff that the kitchen had just closed, whilst re-assuring us that they did produce wonderful food when open!
After some deliberation, some people decided to go home, and 6 of us strode towards Pilgrim Pizza and had some well deserved food and drink, and then homewards.
A great walk with plenty to see along the everchanging canal.
