Buxted Circular

T=swc.95

LENGTH 10.1 miles

DIFFICULTY 3/10

TRAINS. 10.07 from LONDON BRIDGE (usually platform 10)
Arriving BUXTED 11.16
Return train is hourly at .37

LUNCH is at

A large pub with a large garden.

There are two bus stops outside the pub with frequent services to Eridge, Uckfield, or Crowborough. The latter stop is not recommended as it is some distance from Crowborough station along a busy road.

TEA

There’s an alternative afternoon route, which I think is more scenic. However Sean reports that it was closed in July 2024 due to a fallen bridge over a stream. Has it reopened?  Or is one year much too short a time to lay down some planks in today’s Britain? I might not be able to resist the temptation to find out!

@gouldman: that footpath is not shown as closed on the East Sussex footpath map, so it would be worth a try. The collapsed footbridge is the one mentioned at the bottom of p5, col1 "In 130 metres cross over the stream"; in any case it was possible to scamble across last summer in relatively dry conditions.

A footpath in the area which has been closed for many a year is on the Vanguard Way mentioned near the top of p4 col 1 "ignore the left turn [9]" but the SWC walk has never taken that route.
