It’s been over 4 years since this walk got a Wednesday outing in May 2022, when it was the farewell walk for Pauline aka. tartanrug before her migration to Edinburgh.
LENGTH 17.7 km (11 miles)
TOUGHNESS 2/10 No steep hills
TRAINS LIVERPOOL ST 10.02. Arriving WAKES COLNE 11.07 changing at MARKS TEY 10.57/11.01
If you want to be sure of not missing the tight connection (though the Sudbury train does wait for some minutes in the event of a delay) you could take the 09.36 and have a coffee on the platform at Marks Tey
Return trains from Bures are hourly at .33
LUNCH Sadly the Five Bells in Colne Engaine has changed hands and is no longer open on Wednesday lunchtime.
Bring a picnic to enjoy in the churchyard and look forward to the walk ending where there are still two pubs open in Bures.

Perfect conditions for walking today in sandals and trainers today and the hillside facing south provided two benches for picnics on the other side of the church.
The pub seems to offer some food options but only from 3pm so we were unable to get a drink but hopefully that will change in future as there are tables outside to enjoy facing the church.
The Bures pubs at the end of the walk are too far from the station to enjoy whilst waiting for the hourly train service and there’s nothing on offer refreshments wise at the pretty station.
Lovely walk thanks to Joe for posting and 100% group synergy.
