Chesham Circular via The Lee

Length: 16.1 km (10 miles). Toughness: 3/10

Another Saturday another train strike.

This is a variant on the often walked Chesham circular walk. Essentially follow the standard Chesham to Great Missenden walk to the Cock and Rabbit PH (under new ownership) , The Lee. After lunch continue with the directions until [6] to then use the Chesham Circular directions picking up the text at ii) From The Lee to Chartridge.

Catch the 9:49 Metropolitan line train from Baker Street (Aldgate: 9:33), arrives Chesham 10:48.

#5 met outside Chesham underground. By mid morning 2 of us were ahead of the remaining group - never to reunite - and having looked forward to lunch at The Cock & Rabbit, The Lee we arrived just after midday and were disappointed to learn that they were only serving a basic snack menu, sausage rolls and one or two other items. (New management have only recently taken over - so possibly still getting up to speed.)

With rain starting to set in we decided to press on to The Bell, Chartridge, arriving before 13:30. Alas The Bell is now closed and up for sale. (My last memory being a leisurely evening meal there in February 2020 mid way through a Chesham circular evening walk.) Can only hope that it does eventually re-open as a pub. My walking companion who was picnicking very kindly split his sandwiches with me.

We arrived back in Chesham at about 14:45, (me) thoroughly soaked - my 20+ year old basic pack away rain jacket - only prevents light rain penetration. A good walk particularly the section from The Lee to Chartridge.
