T=swc.329
This walk is option b of the Dormans to Lingfield walk. There are a number of options described and it is worth scrolling down to the walk directions and selecting the option b link to get an overview map of what is proposed (and a bespoke set of directions). This option also mentions being on higher ground.

Trains: Get the 0950 (Clapham 0957, East Croydon 1010) East Grinstead train from Victoria, arriving 1044. Return trains at xx10 and xx40.

Lunch: In Lingfield the walk route goes past The Star (01342-832364) after 8 km. It is just outside the picturesque Old Town, has a large garden and serves good food all day. There is a churchyard nearby for sandwichers.

Tea: The Old House at Home pub in the village of Dormansland, 1 km before Dormans station.

#11 off the train in mild-sunny weather. The group stayed together until Lingfield passing through the muddy golf course (with some backmarkers incurring the wrath of golfers impatient to tee off) and racecourse. In Lingfield 2 headed to The Star pub with the rest picnicing in the church grounds. The church is well worth seeing with some interesting features such as two naves and brass designs on the floor. 3 headed back to the pub with the rest continuing on the northern loop. Back at the pub the solitary diner had already finished, in what must be one of the quickest SWC pub visits. 4 pubgoers continued on the northern loop with the diner visiting the church. The earlier walkers had apparently done the loop in reverse (to the notes) so we crossed paths with 3 of them. The afternoon was mostly fields, however the low sun made for great views to the horizon. Back in Lingfield one got the train, the remaining 3 continuing back to Dormans with a spectacular sunset as background. The Dormans 3 popped in for refreshment at The Old House at Home, an attractive village pub, making it the station for the 1640. It would be interesting to hear where others went. The walk does have a fair bit of tarmac walking (around a third according to the app) with some lengthy stretches. Overall a perfect day for walking in good company.

The three 'Northern loop reversers'(later joined by a transfer from another group) made it to Dormans station for the 1610, having had a great chat on an eclectic range of subjects, in the true SWC tradition. Favourite Christmas songs was one topic aired: Dan Fogelberg, Frank Sinatra, Bing Crosby and Bruce Springsteen all found supporters.A lovely day for walking. Thanks for posting.
