Guilford Circular via Chantries Hill

SWC 57: Guildford Circular t=swc.57

Train: Take the 9:30AM South Western train from London Waterloo (Clapham Junction 9:39), arriving Guildford at 10:10AM.  Return trains from Guildford are frequent with the quicker ones at 5 and 35 past the hour.

Distance: 12.6 miles/20.3 km with shorter options available

Difficulty:  4 out of 10

I choice this walk with its ascent up Chantries Hill because the southern escarpment is often a good place to spot early bluebells. Additionally, it explores pleasant scenery in the Surrey Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty with some fine views. The terrain changes to sandy heathland in the afternoon.

The recommended lunch stop is The Drummond at Albury (01483 202 039) 9.1km (5.6 miles) into the main walk. Please call ahead with numbers. Tea (or stronger stuff) can be had in Shalford or back in Guildford.

Enjoy the walk!

#6 on this walk, including two newcomers. It was #sunny-with-a-cooling-breeze. We took the "short-cut" to Albury, not because we were in a hurry but just to try a different path - it was a very attractive route I thought.
The one pub-goer benefited from our speedy arrival in Albury as she was served very efficiently and caught up on the picknickers in only a few minutes after lunch - which we had by the war memorial. I finished at Chilworth so I hope the others enjoyed the afternoon.
