Wednesday Walk - Edenbridge Figure of 8

This walk has never had a Wednesday outing ( maybe there’s a good reason for that) but it’s relatively short and its structure means people can cry off at lunchtime should the weather be awful without getting a bus.
As it’s the festive season I shall bring along some Sloe Gin ( 2023 vintage) for a warming drink on the return journey.
Buy a return to Edenbridge Town
The walk can be extended to Hever, one station further on, but you’ll need a Hever ticket for that.

LENGTH 8.8 miles (14.25km)

TOUGHNESS 1/10

TRAINS. Take the 10.07 Uckfield train from London Bridge stopping at East Croydon 10.22 and reaching Edenbridge Town at 10.45

LUNCH

L=swc.344

Return trains are 15.09, 16.09, and 17.09

Joanna and I have booked a table for 2 for lunch in the Old Eden at 13:00. Let me know if you would like to join us and I will book a bigger table. If not eating in the pub I am sure you can drop in for a beer without booking. Given recent rain and low lying nature of this walk it could be very muddy, bring your gaiters!

N=25 and a dog at the station, n=27 altogether if you count 2 non-walkers in the Eden. A day w=cloudy-sometimes-sunny
Mr Tiger’s distant memories of mud were revived today in this unrelenting slitherthon of a walk. Icky sticky slidey stuff. A circumnavigation of a ginormous icky sticky turnip field. was successfully accomplished, stopping every so often to examine the crop. (Between you and me, Mr Tiger never wants to see another turnip ever again). And so the pub was reached. Most picnicked on the green outside, but a select few ventured in. Some dined Others were told there was no slots till 2. They drank.
The picnickers set off ahead of the pubbers Mysteriously , the picnickers eventually caught up two of the pubbers. This was explained away as a geographical quirk.
No return to the Eden at walk’s end but a sporadic group reconvened on the station platform where kindly benefactors proffered fruit-infused alcohol, some so strong it had had to be diluted with vodka. The ‘intoscitated’ group boarded the 15:09 and continued to intoscitate themselves. On reaching London Bridge, a select few went on an exploratory mission to find a Wetherspoons under the arches. They found it.
