Buxton Trip - the Northwesterly Peak District [New Walks]

The Trip:

5 scheduled daywalks, all with shorter, some with longer options.

Thursday 1st September:

Friday 2nd to Monday 5th September, in yet-to-be-fixed order:

By Public Transport, Buxton is most easily reached via the West Coast Mainline from Euston, changing at Stockport. Often though, the connection time is not very good, so much so that it can be faster to take the train just to Macclesfield, walk up to the bus station and take the 58 across to Buxton. The cheapest journey is: East Midlands Mainline from St. Pancras to Sheffield or a connecting train to Matlock from Derby and then a bus across the Peak District (Lines 65/65A or Transpeak 3, respectively).

I travelled to Buxton, by taking train to Chesterfield, then bus about an hour to Buxton, last year. And return journey the same backwards. Enjoyed

Booked into the market square area. Buxton is a buzzing market town, with its opera house and so much charachter. There are about 8 different brewery owned establishments there, so a beer drinkers paradise.

Hi Thomas

We would love to come. We are two people driving from London, so can potentially take two more in the car with us.

Kind regards

Yuliya

Individual walks now posted. Sequence largely defined by bus schedules and pub/tea room opening days. And on the last day: a walk that doesn't depend on buses and with a guaranteed return time early enough for getting the last bus or train out of town...

Bus times will be updated nearer the time, and those for buses as shortcuts will be added then.

Hello,
I'm driving up from London to Peak District on Thursday evening, if anyone wants a lift.

Also is anyone staying in Macclesfield? Wondering if you'd like to share a taxi Friday morning to the walk start point.

Please email saturdaywalkers@yahoo.co.uk to get in touch

Thanks, Kunal

For anyone staying in Macclesfield: on the Friday, you could take the 58 bus at 09.15 to Ladmanlow, Leek Road (arrives 09.42) and take the 16 to Upper Hulme from there (opposite side of the road, at 09.50).

Is there a meeting place for Thursday evening?
And a whats app group?

I'm suggesting meeting in the Cheshire Cheese, 6 to 6.30 pm ish. Good beer and food. It is by the Market Square on Thursday, tomorrow.

I might arrive a little late for the start of the walk so will aim to catch up / join you for post-walk food/drink.

All in then, 22 walkers and a dog over the 5 days, with a handful of those either first timers or with only a couple of SWC outings under their belt. Also 1 walker that hadn't been seen for years, from long before C****. 4 walked all the 5 walks, 3 of those walked all the walks at full length (incl. Dublin Man, respect!). The weather was very good, with 3 sunny days and 2 cloudy ones. And it was outrageously exceptional if compared to the gloomy forecast. Organisation? Everything worked as planned and posted. Group dynamics and cohesion: very good (group dinners and drinks every evening, attended by almost all the walkers apart from the ones in the self catering house of 4). Injuries/incidents? None really, not even verbal explosions, apart from the one very unfortunate incident when the group that tried to avoid the exposed route over Chrome Hill inadvertently ended up on a steep and narrow path along its flank, the very thing they tried to avoid!
The host town: a great place for a walking group with a plethora of accommodation and dining options, and so many great and/or beautiful buildings it's a pleasure to walk through.
All in: a very very enjoyable trip.
Job done.

Keep on SWCing...
