Wednesday Walk: Faversham Circular via Oare Marsh
Length 10 miles, 16.1 km (approx.) Toughness 2 out of 10.
I nicked this idea off of Marcus, didn’t I? You won’t tell him, will you? It’s a mix of one of our walks and a local tourist trail.
We first follow the Walk on the Wild Side leaflet out of Faversham and round Oare Marshes. Returning, we visit the Three Mariners in Oare for lunch. From there, you could just retrace the town trail back into Faversham - or even get a bus. But the plan is to pick up the directions in the later part of SWC’s Teynham to Faversham walk. Off we jolly well go, down the other side of Oare Creek round the coast, through a bit more marsh, returning to Faversham along Faversham Creek and past Britain’s oldest brewery. In Faversham, a plethora of caffs and pubs await.
Trains: You can travel High Speed from St Pancras or slower and cheaper from Victoria.
The 10:10 Dover Priory train from Victoria arrives Faversham 11:25
The 10:25 Ramsgate train from St Pancras arrives Faversham 11:31
Times back to Victoria xx:04 and xx:36
Times back to St Pancras vary slightly each hour. Here's some 15:58,16:28.17:00,17:28,17:37,18:28.
Lunch: The Three Mariners in Oare (advisable to book ahead). There is another pub round the corner, the Castle.
Tea: Faversham is creaking with pubs and tea-shops. Dare I suggest the Bear Inn (Faversham’s oldest pub), in the town square or maybe the Railway nearer the station.
Directions
From the station, go left along Station Road then right, up Preston Road, to find Market Place (off to the left). From there, pick up the directions in the 'Wild Side' leaflet.
You need this Walk on the Wild Side
and you need pages 8, 9 and 10 of our Teynham to Faversham walk (#299) (Page 8 also has directions for a shorter return to Faversham)

Thanks Mr Tiger..any short cuts pls? including very short ones?
I don’t know enough about the area. The most obvious shortcut is not to do the second section going round Ham Marshes (but you might find page 8 useful for the route back to Faversham). In the morning’s Wildside section you could cut off the corner visiting C6 and D1 Laversham Court Farm ( the westernmost point of the route.
Might bring a small dog just this once!😊🐶
9 off the trains and 1 we heard arrived late makes n=10 The day w=started-cloudy-got-sunny We got off to an inauspicious start wandering round a housing estate. I don’t like to use the L-word as you know, but we weren’t were we should be. We did eventually escape and did the circuit of the marsh past the Tudor birdhouse, past the barky dogs and back to Oare for lunch in the 3 Mariners. It was good.
Then we did the circuit of Ham marshes. The short circuit. Not much in the way of flowers today, some salsify and that’s about A few ducks maybe. it A quick drink in the Bear and home.
Forgot t mention the Marsh Frogs. We heard some. Croaking away.
