Wednesday Walk - Shiplake to Henley

LENGTH 17.96 km (11.2 miles)

TOUGHNESS 4/10

TRAINS. PADDINGTON  10.08
                TWYFORD.       10.41/10.45
                SHIPLAKE.       10.52
Those wishing to take the Elizabeth line please use the TFL GO app to work out which service will get you from your local station
to TWYFORD BY 10.40

Return trains leave HENLEY at .00 and .30hrs.

LUNCH. The Maltsters Arms has reopened (just not on Wednesdays)
If your walk is incomplete without a pub lunch we shall pass the Bottle and Glass early on. This may be too early as only about a quarter or less of the walk will have been completed by then.

However, just past the Maltsters there’s a National Trust cafe called The Cowshed at Grey’s Court. Admission ticket NOT required to eat in the cafe.

TEA. WETHERSPOONS is a favourite as is VIV’s (formerly known as the Chocolate Cafe) Viv was the owner of the original Chocolate Cafe. She now owns two others as well and still majors in chocolate drinks.

SHORTCUTS.  I’m planning to take the High Wood option at the start of the walk. It will save 3km and is also drier.
Plus there’s a shorter return route to Henley after lunch which saves another 4km.

n=18 at Henley station in w=cloudy-then-sunny weather.
The Cowshed proved a good alternative for The Maltsters with plenty of seating inside and out. Until they lost their electricity supply, though some benefitted from free soup as a result.
In Henley we tried the Angel on the river and relaxed in the strong spring sun on a platform not just on the riverside, but extended over Father Thames running at full spate.
A fine end to a springlike day..
