Length: 20.5km (12.7m)
Toughness: 6 / 10
Transport: Take the 9:22 from London Bridge, arriving at Hurst Green at 10:04. Return trains from Penshurst station at xx:22 via Tonbridge or xx:09 via Redhill. Buy a day return to Penshurst station since it is the station further away from London.
This walk hasn't had a Saturday outing for 2 years and I haven't done it for many more years. The walk follows the Greensand way and passes Churchill's home at Chartwell and a nice pub at Ide Hill, the suggested lunch time stop after 13km, although you can also have lunch at the NT place at Chartwell after 7.5km. I presume there will be mud ...

4 met at the train station and immediately set a fast pace. At Toys Hill me made a small detour to the ruin of Weardale Manor on top of the hill with its fine views. Talking about baking cakes for quite some time before reaching Ide Hill made us ravenous. The Cook Inn is now a Greene King pub and looks to me blander inside than I remember it. But all agreed the food and the service were very good. After lunch we had a quick look into the Victorian church at Ide Hill and petted some friendly donkeys in a field further along. At Bore Place farm, a farm that seems to be open to visitors with lots of information panels, we got glimpses of a difficult birth of a calf in a shed with the farmer in attendance. After tea/coffee/apple crumble in the Little Brown Jug a n=5 th walker appeared just in time to take the 17:22 home. w=cloudy_with_drizzle_in_the_morning_and_more_rain_after_lunch
