This is a popular prom. If the website shows sold out, I suggest that you come back on a regular basis to check for return tickets. RAH has over 1000 members. They tend to send their unwanted tickets to the box office about 2-3 weeks before the performance. So it is well worth a check. Alternatively, you can get a promming ticket on the day.
Weather forecast was not great, we had a last minute change of the plan, picnic abandoned, Carluccio's was on. This worked really well since the concert did not start until 8pm. We felt rather smug inside the restaurant when rain came down. 5 dined at Carluccio's, food was fresh and very good, better than another one I sometimes go to on the way home. 4 had set menu - 3 courses for £22, a absolute bargain in today's standard. We had some issues with restaurant over-charging us initially but it was corrected quickly to our satisfaction. We met another walker just when we were leaving the restaurant, and two more (one prommer) at the concert hall. Two, previously had bought tickets, 'defected' to the Leeds garrison. So n=8.
The concert was fantastic. Our choir seats enabled us to see clearly the conductor Sir Simon Rattle who was very expressive. Each note was conducted with precision and great clarity. We all agreed, only a few greatest conductors can do this...
Two hammers down, the concert ended. We burst into a lively discussion, sat in our seats absorbing the emotional 'after shock' as others leaving the auditorium. On stage, brass and string players of the orchestra were each busy taking the group selfies. We took a photo of the resonant box and hammer as our memorabilia for this year's prom before heading to the tube station.
Good bye BBC Proms, good bye Royal Albert Hall, until next year.
