Or, you can take the 9.54 from London Victoria (10.01 Clapham Junction) and change at East Croydon (10,10) to wait for the above train.
For those taking the shorter option, Cowden is one stop
beyond Hever. The train arrives there at 10.53.
Return trains from Dormans are at xx:16 and xx:46, journey time 56 minutes to London Victoria.
Buy a day return to Hever (or Cowden if starting there) and a single from Dormans to Hurst Green.
This walk covers a fairly remote area of the borders of Kent, Surrey and Sussex. It passes three historic manor houses, each from a different historic period, and climbs to an iron-age hill fort.
Lunch: The Fountain Cowden 01342 850528 is only 6.0 km (3.8 miles) into the
walk. There are no refreshment opportunities after this pub so it might be wise
to bring a packed lunch or snack in case the pub is busy.
After leaving the road at Cowden there are no further roads
until reaching the outskirts of Dormansland at the end, and therefore no exits.
Tea can be had at Old House at Home pub on the western side of
Dormansland just off the route. It is 0.8km (0.5m) from the station.

Four conferred on the train to Hever and agreed it might be better to start from Cowden and aim to get to Dormans before the heavy rain forecast for the afternoon. At Hever, we persuaded a car driver and dog waiting on the platform to join us and left behind another car driver whose companion had already started walking to Cowden. The five Cowden starters made it to Dormans in good time (around 2.30pm), stopping for a picnic in a field along the way. One went straight to the station, the other four went to the Old House At Home for refreshments. The two Hever starters walked to Cowden where they stopped for a drink and a picnic. One then carried on to Dormans and caught up with the four in the pub, the other walked back to Hever. So, n=7 walkers on a day of dire weather warnings which didn't transpire until 3.30pm when we had finished the walk. The weather was w=warm-with-spells-of-sunshine-and-strong-winds.
