A long journey today, with slow trains on a rickety line, but I counted n=16 at the station with one joining later, making n=17. Weather was w=sunny-am-cloudy-pm There was mud, god, was there mud. And squish and probably clag as well. But mustn’t grumble. An enjoyable day, even battling uphill through the inevitable torrent after Fernhurst..
In Fernhurst, 4 went in the Red Lion, 3 of whom opted for posh looking nosh, 1 just having a pint of HSB. mmm! Others either picnicked or went to the Fern cafe.
All went well until the final ascent before Haslemere. A big - and I mean big - tree has fallen into the bridleway, completely blocking it. Most, I think, wriggled or crawled through the branches. Mr Tiger, being more decorous, reprised his performance at Groombridge, climbing up the steep bank, going along a bit and sliding down again.
In Haslemere, some went to Hemingways, where they had big cakes, then compounded their sins by going in the Swan, where Mr Tiger found some Lilleys cider. Mmmmmm.
