A special treat for this week, a sunset and full moon walk all wrapped into one! Let's hope the weather cooperates! Hopefully, the walk will feature a lovely sunset over the City from THE hill in Essex (see banner photo)and finish up with a full Harvest Super Moon rising near where the Thames meets the sea on the way to Leigh-on-Sea… It should take about 2 hours to walk to Leigh-on-Sea – so time to have a meal in one if its many pubs before heading back to London. More information about the route can be found here.
Ps: You may want to bring a head torch…but, hopefully, the moon will provide enough light to finish the walk…

n=8 gathered at Benfleet station in disappointingly cloudy conditions, including a couple of new faces to the evening program. Nonetheless we set off with optimistic hopes of the clouds parting..... and part they did.... at first slightly to allow for some nice sunset colors -- though the view to the city is now obscured by a corn field....then the parting grew and a shy moon gradually revealed itself as we we were on our approach to the castle ruins with a glorious full parting while we were at the castle in a perfect location to admire the perfect bright globe. Eventually, we torn ourselves away and headed on to Leigh-on-Sea and the moon tucked itself back behind the clouds....On route we saw a few bats and a glow worm. In Leigh, 3 went direct to the station and 5 managed to squeeze food orders in at the Crooked Billet before catching the 9:43 back to London. A fun night out under w=partly-cloudy-skies.
